Luke Evans is the Owner and Head Coach of Cognition Jiu Jitsu. A lifelong martial artist, Luke began training in Judo in the late 1990s before transitioning to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2010 while living in New Zealand.

After returning to the UK, he continued his development in Kendal under Sam Kaye and Ben Poppleton, sharpening both his competitive and coaching foundations.

In 2023, Luke was awarded his black belt by Roberto Correa (Gordo) and Sam Kaye — marking over a decade of dedicated progression in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Alongside his BJJ journey, Luke has trained the home-grown, martial art of catch wrestling for a number of years under the Snake Pit Wigan, achieving Level 5 within their historic lineage. This experience has heavily influenced his grappling style, emphasising pressure, positional control, and chain wrestling.

As Owner and Head Coach of Cognition Jiu Jitsu, Luke is passionate about developing skilled, adaptable grapplers. He blends Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, and catch wrestling principles with a modern, structured coaching philosophy. Above all, he remains a lifelong student who genuinely loves training, coaching, and teaching.
